Leigh Hatcher brings more than 30-years of experience in broadcast journalism to his role as a presenter with Sky News.
His distinguished and varied career began at Radio 2GB in Sydney, where he did his journalism cadetship. In mid 1975 he was appointed Bureau Chief for the Macquarie Radio Network in the Canberra Parliamentary press gallery. It was a baptism of fire, because three months later, Prime Minister Gough Whitlam was sacked.
Leigh then went on to become news editor of Radio 2CA Canberra and then news director, then programme director of Radio 5DN Adelaide. He returned to the Canberra press gallery as a political correspondent with the Seven Network, reporting on Malcolm Fraser's last year as Prime Minister, and Bob Hawke's first year in the top job.
Leigh was then appointed as the Seven Network's European correspondent, living and working out of London, reporting all the major events through east and western Europe between 1983 and 1985. He then returned to Adelaide, where he hosted a news-talk breakfast radio programme on Radio 5DN.
He returned to Sydney in 1988, working for a decade as a senior reporter and newsreader for the Seven Network. He was appointed Chief Olympic correspondent in the very early days of Sydney's bid for the Year 2000 Games, eventually reporting on Sydney's victory in Monte Carlo in 1993.
After the 2000 Olympics Leigh first joined Sky, where he's been working ever since as one of our presenters. Of all the jobs he's had, he says his current role, reading First Edition with Sharon McKenzie, is his favourite!
Leigh is married to Meredith and they have four children. Outside of his work at Sky, he's a publisher and is in much demand as a Christian speaker. In 2005 he authored his first book, ‘I'm Not Crazy, I'm Just A Little Unwell', which is now approaching best seller status.
His hobbies are swimming, surfing, ocean racing, bonsai, and flying computer flight simulators and radio controlled aircraft.
